Obstacles to women entrepreneurship

In 2006, I sat in a police station in the outskirts of an important city in the middle-east region. For one of the very few women in business; this was intimidating.  One of the employee’s father had filed a complaint that the daughter was being asked to work too hard. I was lucky to have an Arabic speaking local friend accompany me to facilitate the discussion with the cops. The cop was belligerent when he saw that I was a girl. It took the friend who accompanied me at least an hour to convince the cop that a girl can indeed be an owner of a company. And that such a situation is perfectly legal and viable.

Circumstances like these are not covered in any 101 guide on how to be an entrepreneur; but they are a huge part of our lives. These may transgress themselves into creative non-conducive business environments for entrepreneurial growth.
